Beating of a Tambourine in Chittaranjan Park, - 03 October
On 3 October an Ab, Baaki Charcha (ABC) for Gender Justice event was organised by Mittika with the Resident Welfare Association of Chittaranjan Park at the K -block Cooperative Durga Puja pandal. A magic show and a forum theatre were arranged as part of the advocacy around the theme of masculinity being carried out before the 2nd MenEngage Global Symposium begins.
The event was held in the afternoon when the usual surging crowd at the Puja pandals were less and, therefore, manageable. The beating of a tambourine ensured that a crowd of pandal-hoppers quickly gathered. It was interesting that there was no age barrier and the youngest participant was much younger than 10 and the eldest participant was in his 50s.
While the magic show was primarily aimed at the children, the more serious business of the forum play had the audience enthralled with several participating in its interactions throughout. It was heartening to note that here again, there was widespread participation from across age groups.
