The final action plan for January:
Nazariya, Breakthrough and ME-D along with the students reached a consensus that more information on Women Development Cell of the college should be made available and circulated to create more awareness among students in and around the college campuses utilising prominent spaces like the canteen, entrance gate etc. In doing so, the AGM would explore and contribute towards a more gender-sensitive college campus.
Group discussions were to be carried out about basic laws and rights regarding sexual harassment and details of the Internal Complaints Committee and its mandate was to be found.
- They highlighted the fear faced by girls in reporting incidents of eve-teasing and sexual harassment linking to unapproachability of the police and the college administration. They suggested a psychological survey to be conducted on girls to understand why they avoid reporting such incidents.
- They wanted to address gender-based discrimination on three outlines i.e., identity, expressions and expectations. They also want to address the issues of LGBTQ rights on college campus.
- A small workshop on what people perceive as gender was suggested. Discussing the legal aspects of gender-related discrimination and the laws pertaining to it by a guest speaker. A short, situational activity providing different social settings to gauge the polarity levels of the participants as well as what they perceive as feminine or masculine.
- The issue of the library not staying open after 8pm was brought up. They wished to portray the issue using theatre with the help of the active theatre group at JMI.
- They raised the issue that there is a wine shop in the vicinity of the college which leads to insecurity among students in the evenings.
- A workshop for the Bachelors students by the Masters students to give them an insight into the work towards this movement. Arrange film screenings, theatre performances, panel discussions etc. surrounding the subject of gender in the one week dedicated to gender in their college in January.
